ADA The Americans with Disabilities Act This legislation provides broad nondiscrimination protection in employment, public services, public accommodation and services operated by private entities, transportation and telecommunications for individuals with disabilities.  Butler Mobilitys products are designed in particular with the Incline wheelchair lifts or the vertical wheelchair lifts or the courtroom rostrum wheelchair lifts to comply with these requirements.

ADAAG: Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines. Developed by the Federal Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (The Access Board) and incorporated in the ADA regulations for new construction and alterations of commercial facilities and government buildings. ADAAG references the 2001 edition of ASME A18.1.

ASME A18.1 - Standards for vertical platform wheelchair lifts and incline platform wheelchair lifts can be found in The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standard A18.1, Safety Standard for Platform Wheelchair Lifts.  Butler Mobility Platform Wheelchair Lifts and Incline Platform Wheelchair Lifts comply with the ASME A18.1 standards.
CSA B355 The Canadian standards for vertical and incline platform wheelchair lifts can be found in the CSA standard B355, Lifts for Persons with Disabilities. Butler Mobility Platform Wheelchair Lifts and Incline Wheelchair Lifts comply with the CSA B355 standards.
Disability generally, there are three requirements:

  1. A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of such individual
  2. A record of such an impairment
  3. Or being regarded as having such an impairment

Inclined Platform Wheelchair Lifts - are designed to transport wheelchair users or mobility impaired pedestrians between building levels.  A moving floor surface follows steel tracks, usually in an existing stair case.  They can be used as part of an interior or exterior accessible route.  The Butler Inclined Platform Wheelchair Lift is an excellent choice for interior applications.

Means of Egress- A continuous and unobstructed path of travel from any occupied portion of a building or structure to a public way.

Vertical Platform Wheelchair Lifts - allow transfer of wheelchair users and mobility impaired pedestrians between one or more levels.  They require much less space than a ramp and are often more cost effective. They can be used as part of an interior or exterior accessible route.  Vertical Platform Wheelchair Lifts are often used to provide access to stage areas, for judicial courtroom applications and assembly seating.  The Butler Vertical Platform Wheelchair Lifts are specifically designed for stage access and judicial facility applications.
